July 20 Gisele Bündchen turns 40! A few years ago, she gave up her modeling career to spend more time with her family and pursue her own projects. The former Victoria's Secret angel now writes beauty advice books and participates in environmental charities. On rare occasions, Giselle gives interviews, but they all cause a stir. Reading Bündchen's stories and tips is a pleasure. She seems to know everything about harmony and self-love. BeautyHack selected the most interesting quotes from the supermodel from her last conversation with the editors of the April issue of Marie Claire US.
“I have three important rules that I teach my children (Giselle has two children - 10-year-old Benjamin and 7-year-old Vivian. - Ed.): Reduce, reuse, recycle. These are the main steps in everyday life that are of great importance for the environment. As a family, we try to limit the consumption of paper and plastic at home. We also use a water filter, reusable bottles, sorting waste. When we go to the store to shop, we always take our bags with us, we often buy food from local farmers who do not use packaging. We do our best to preserve nature. It is not easy, but essential. I always remind my children that every choice we make affects our planet and we must do our best to help it."
On the power of words
“As a child, I was often teased because of my height. I was taller than all the boys and girls in my class. And some of the words that my classmates said to me were very offensive. It took me many years to realize that these words do not define me, I cannot allow myself to depend on them. Words have great power: they can both inspire and motivate and hurt. I always try to explain this to my children, tell them that you need to be careful in expressions. If they have nothing to say, they should not say anything. Each person is special in their own way, and each has something unique to add to this world. We are all here to learn and grow."
About social networks
“Children have iPads where they can sometimes watch movies or play games. But I give them a time limit, I encourage them to play together and be outside as much as possible. When they complain that they are bored, I say that it is good, because during this time they can come up with new activities. Usually for several minutes they run after each other around the house in some kind of game that they themselves invented. Benny can also draw for hours at the table, while Vivi plays with horses and bears in her room. We have a ban on gadgets at the table or in bed at home. Instead, we try to talk and find out how someone's day went. However, I understand the value of social media and the benefits it can bring if used in moderation.”
“I believe that balance is the key to maintaining a healthy diet. In our home, we try to have seasonal organic products that we buy from local farmers. We mainly eat plant foods. This helps us feel good and is also less damaging to the environment. But I do not strictly follow any type of food, everything is good in moderation. For example, my highest guilt is dark chocolate."
About yoga, meditation and breathing
“Yoga and meditation have become useful practices for me. They help me to be in balance with myself, bring me clarity of this world, allow me to refocus my attention on what really matters. The breath itself is incredibly calming. In particular, the breathing of pranayama changed my life … For a long time, while I was in sight, I did not know who I really was. It took me long enough to find myself. But now I know that I feel much happier."
“I like doing sports outside. Horseback riding, cycling and skiing are some of my favorite ways to get active and connect with nature. It also helps me stay in shape, nourishes my body, mind and soul."
“One of my favorite wellness practices is aromatherapy. I love using lavender essential oil, it helps me sleep well. Peppermint oil is also great. When I have a headache, I put a few drops on my temples, and immediately everything goes away. Eucalyptus oil is ideal for relaxation and recovery. Essential oils come straight from the earth to enhance our health and well-being. I also feel that our health is greatly influenced by food, thoughts and actions. Therefore, I carefully choose foods in my diet, I follow what I think, say and do."
