When did you feel the need for a new quality of life? And what does awareness mean to you?

- It's hard for me to remember any specific moment when a light bulb came on in my head and I said to myself: “Hmm… It's time to change something”. The desire for a more conscious life came along with growing up, practicing yoga, taking a course on nutrition, the first years of motherhood, getting acquainted with the books of Eckhart Tolle. All these events and practices have become pieces of a puzzle that have formed a desire for self-knowledge. Define the concept of "awareness" very difficult, because for everyone it can have some shades of its own. For me, awareness is a non-judgmental being in the present moment, which gives a fuller experience of life. Moreover, this is not a skill that I took and learned, like, for example, to ride a bicycle, and not an achievement for which you can get a medal. This is constant, painstaking work on yourself, catching the autopilot and stereotyped settings in all spheres of life.

Has anything happened to you that could not have been achieved without such an approach?

- A very interesting question! It seems to me that any achievement in life is the result of hard work, including on yourself. Leaving your comfort zone. Someone does it with ease, loves the challenges of fate. I'm not one of those. I am ready to hold on to the convenience, habits, to change something for me - a great achievement and conscious work on complexes and weaknesses. One of the most obvious examples was the launch of my Vitamin L podcast last year. I am trembling in my knees afraid of public speaking, especially impromptu, and when all this is still being recorded, the pounding of my heart is in my ears, my throat dries up. Plus, all my life I have lived with the assumption that my voice is too high-pitched, extremely unpleasant in audio recording, and I'm not an interviewer either. But I really wanted to talk to the women who inspire me and share their wisdom with the world.Result - 10 podcast episodes.

Tell me more about how you fight negative emotions. What triggers cause them?

“I don’t fight them because I don’t strive for the pacification and complete tranquility of the Dalai Lama. I am a living person and I want to remain one. I want my children to see both positive and negative emotions, to learn from me to work with them. Part of the awareness, in my opinion, is precisely in accepting any emotions and experiences and analyzing why I am experiencing them now. And you can already work with the cause of emotions.

How has the worldview changed in general - emotions, perception?

- I became more tolerant and empathic towards myself and people, I began to understand that many of my reactions and theirs are echoes of complexes, traumas and attitudes, often from childhood. I became calmer. Not even that. I learned to quickly catch and analyze the cause of my momentary reactions. For example, she answered sharply to her spouse or shouted at a child. And then: “Stop! Why? Are you tired? Underslept?" By bringing more awareness to one of the areas of our life, others are automatically pulled up: you begin to pay more attention to nutrition, movement, consumption.

Can you name the main habits that allow you to keep this balance?

- Daily practice of meditation. Last year I took a course in transcendental meditation and I can say that it really became a working tool for me. I can feel the difference on days when I miss practice. Ideally, twice a day for 20 minutes, although this rarely happens lately. Without formal meditation practice in any of its forms - breathing, transcendental, with voice accompaniment (Headspace, Insight Timer, etc.), it is difficult to teach yourself to be here and now. Turn off the voice in your head with a to-do list, repeat unpleasant conversations to yourself, worry about future events. I want to note that, despite the fact that the roots of meditation are Buddhism, for me it has no religious connotation. It is more of a mind-muffling practice, or something. Besides meditation, keeping a diary helps me a lot, which I've been filling daily for a couple of years now. Recently, I have come back to him during particularly difficult or stressful periods of my life. The practice of yoga allows you to keep in touch with the body, teaches you to breathe through complex asanas, which is then automatically transferred to life situations when a pair of conscious deep breaths allows you to come to your senses. Eating is becoming more conscious and intuitive, a process that took me more than one year.

And how not to break loose, not to abandon these habits?

- At the initial stage, until they become an integral part of life, it is especially difficult. It takes willpower and a clear understanding of the benefits of having them. Personally, it’s hardest for me to follow my habits if I’m tired and didn’t get enough sleep, so quality sleep and constant filling of the resource are in the first place. For me it is jogging, massage, yoga, reading, time in nature, traveling.

Which of the modern trends in quality life do you think is extremely important and why?

- Now there is a general trend towards awareness. And in relationships, and in personal care, and in consumption. They all make me very happy. If I choose a few, then I would call a complete, bio-individual nutrition (because it is responsible for our well-being and state during the day), an empathic attitude towards ourselves and the people around (because without love for ourselves and people, all changes do not make much sense), conscious consumption (therefore, we are all part of a huge, but such interconnected ecosystem).

Surely you have favorite books that tell about all this, inspire you to slow life

- Oh sure.

  • Eckhart Tolle. "New land".
  • Mark Williams, Denny Penman. “Mindfulness. How to find harmony in our crazy world”.
  • Mihai Csikszentmihalyi. "Flow. The Psychology of Optimal Experience”.
  • Yonge Riponche. "Buddha, the brain and the neurophysiology of happiness."

What advice would you give to our readers who want to qualitatively change their life, get more pleasure from it and learn to slow down?

- I recently heard this recommendation from an interview with Eckhart Tolle: “When you have a free minute during the day, for example, stand in line, instead of flipping through the feed of social networks, take a few deep and meaningful breaths in and out (breath in 2 counts, holding the breath for 4 and exhaling for 4) ". This will quickly return you to the here and now and calm the sympathetic nervous system. In general, listen to yourself more, this is the whole secret.
