After Lena Perminova underwent abdominoplasty to remove diastasis, a new round of interest in this procedure occurred. As the model told her Instagram followers, she decided on surgery for two reasons: firstly, diastasis threatens with serious pinching and complications if nothing is done with it. Secondly, the aesthetic aspect was also upsetting for Perminova: for example, after eating the stomach "fell out" and did not look flat.
During the quarantine, the model fully recovered and, according to her, even became thinner at the waist by 5 centimeters. The only side effect found was the need to redevelop the abs. But something tells us that Lena will do it quickly, judging by the training videos on her social network.
Naturally, subscribers bombarded Lena with questions: why, to whom to do, what kind of operation and whether it is worth doing. We were also interested and forwarded questions to specialists.
Why do the rectus abdominis muscles diverge

Dmitry Saratovtsev
plastic surgeon, candidate of medical sciences
Diastasis can develop during the preparation of the body for childbirth and the usual hormones are to blame for this, which are produced in order to make the white line of the abdomen elastic: as a result, the child is more comfortable in the mother's abdomen.
After childbirth, hormones begin to be produced in the body again: they help the stomach return to its original shape. But within a year after pregnancy, hormones may not cope with the problem of divergence of the rectus muscles, so if the stomach has not been able to recover in twelve months, it makes sense to contact a plastic surgeon.

There can be several reasons for the occurrence of diastasis. First, by gaining weight during pregnancy, a woman can lose a lot of weight after giving birth. In this case, the muscles lose their elasticity, and this is what contributes to diastasis.
The second reason is incorrect actions immediately after childbirth. When, after a successful childbirth, women want to quickly regain weight. Because of this, they begin to actively pump the press, engage in physical exercises, naively believing that this will save them from diastasis: however, the body must be given the opportunity to recover.
Why is it important not to run this problem? The rectus muscle - not only makes the abdomen flat, but also supports the internal organs, preventing them from dropping.
Our other specialist, plastic surgeon Vladimir Plakhotin, adds: diastasis can also lead to pain in the lumbar-pelvic region, gastrointestinal disorders, the appearance of hernias in the umbilical region and in the white line of the abdomen.
How to tell if you have diastasis
The discrepancy of the vertical muscles can be determined independently, but an ultrasound or tomography will give an accurate picture.

How to recognize distasis? The white line of the abdomen falls through or, on the contrary, sticks out. If you lie on the floor, bend your legs and raise your body, you can see as if a gap between the muscles. And then it matters what size it is.
If this distance is not more than the norm - up to 2 centimeters, then you can connect a breathing exercise, strengthening the muscles of the core and pelvic floor. But if the divergence of the muscles is more than two centimeters, you have had diastasis for a long time, and you have a history of hernias, then you need surgical correction. But the important thing is that the operation to suture the rectus muscle does not guarantee that the discrepancy will not happen again! On the contrary: exercises for posture, breathing and strengthening the abdominal muscles are an obligatory stage of recovery after such an intervention and to maintain the result. And it is important to do this under the supervision of a specialist, because there is nothing to do with the popular "pumping press" and weight loss.

What are the operations to eliminate diastasis

Vladimir Plakhotin
Plastic surgeon
The main treatment for diastasis is abdominoplasty. There are many options: endoscopic, classical, vertical, mini-abdomenoplasty - the decision on which correction option to prefer remains with the plastic surgeon and depends on a combination of factors. For example, in the absence of a large amount of subcutaneous fat, the operation is performed through small punctures. We suture diastasis and additionally fix it with a special mesh (mesh allograft), which in a couple of months becomes overgrown with connective tissue. The result is strong support that protects against the recurrence of diastasis.
Dmitry Saratovtsev adds:
- With the endoscopic method (this method was used to remove diastasis and to Lena Perminova - Ed.), Rehabilitation is rather quick. Just a couple of days after the surgery, the woman feels quite comfortable. The patient is in the hospital for no more than two days, and after two weeks, you can gradually return to light physical activity. For about a month after the operation, we recommend wearing a special bandage.
Many people are very worried if they find diastasis in themselves. However, you should not give in to panic: today it is not difficult to fix this problem. The main thing is to assess the scale with the help of a specialist and choose the correct correction tactics.
