Have you wanted to get a tattoo for a long time, but something is stopping you? We asked the main questions to Sasha Masyuk, the tattoo artist and founder of the Sashatattooing studio. The main stereotype for those who are planning to get their first tattoo is not to do it in the summer. Tell me, is this true or myth?
This is a myth, tattoos can be done absolutely at any time. The main thing is good care after. For a fresh tattoo, it's enough not to be in direct sunlight for a week or swim in the pool. One week is not a reason to wait a whole season.
Can there be skin problems (allergies, irritations, swelling, bruising) after getting a tattoo? What if there is a reaction?
Of course, such situations also happen. I personally had such a case - an allergy to red paint. If the reaction is specifically to the paint, then nothing can be done - you need to wait until it passes. Apply a healing ointment if it doesn't cause allergies by itself (yes, it does happen). Allergies can also be on textiles (if the T-shirt, for example, touches a tattoo). But allergies are one thing and the quality of a tattoo is completely different. Excessive inflammation and poor drawing appearance may indicate poor performance.
In addition, there are times when people themselves do not follow the recommendations of the master: they seal the tattoo and go to training on the second or third day. It's hot in the hall, the tattoo gets inflamed again, bacteria get into it. In cases of inflammation, the tattoo must be rinsed and cream applied. My advice is to compress a light antibiotic cream for 2-3 hours. All the redness went away.
Does the day of the cycle affect the tattooing process?
Naturally. However, during the procedure, the master can anesthetize the place of work with a special cream. Sometimes this solves the problem a little.
More than once I came across the fact that in women the process is painful in the first days of the cycle. Up to the point that the client cannot stand. The reason is that at the beginning of the cycle, the pain threshold decreases.
The cycle does not in any way affect the state of the blood during the tattooing process, but in my practice there were cases of severe bleeding in those who drank alcohol the day before. The content of alcohol in the body dilutes it. I have seen the same thing in people with diabetes.
What about places where there are moles? Are they unforgotten?
Each master chooses for himself. Some ask if they can score this place, some just keep working. And there are such situations: the master, having come across a rather large birthmark, hammered it without asking the client. Personally, I do not pay attention to small moles, freckles and work calmly. But if it is of a different color, large or of a strange shape, I skip it and continue working around.
How to properly care for a tattoo after? What tools do you need to have in your arsenal after the tattoo is done?
I always give my clients three main points:
- You cannot wet the tattoo for 10 days. That is, you need to wash the tattoo every day, but the rest of the time try to avoid being damp in the middle - the drawing should heal in dryness.
- Keep it clean.
- Use a healing cream.
There are not many funds, in fact. Most important is liquid soap (not necessarily antibacterial) to print the tattoo and wash it off. Then blot with a dry cloth and use a special healing cream.
What is the healing period?
First stage: 3-4 days until a crust appears. For large-scale works, blackwork, this period is longer, but if everything is done efficiently, even so a crust appears, which disappears by 6-7 days. After 10 days, a period of special attention to the tattoo passes. But complete healing occurs when the top layer of the skin is renewed, which takes about a month.
What procedures should I refuse when I got a tattoo?
For the first time - from visiting pools, baths and any other places with a humid environment. Globally, you will have to give up laser hair removal in places where there is a tattoo. This is due to the fact that the laser burns the skin in the areas of the pattern and the paint simply "falls out". You can continue to go to the gym, however, very seriously observing hygiene. And if there is inflammation, you need to take a break.
Should tattoos be protected from the sun in the city and on the beach?
It is important to follow the tattoo in the first season, to be neat. The paint is still completely on top - in the first month or two, the tattoo may fade. As time passes, the tattoo will sink under the lymph and become less susceptible to the sun. If you plan to sunbathe, don't worry, nothing will happen to her. On my trip to Asia, I got very tanned, but this did not affect the tattoos. Maybe if I had used creams, they would be darker, but they look great anyway. But in the long term, those who always use SPF cream will have much better tattoos.
How quickly does a tattoo fade and where does it fade faster?
My oldest tattoo is 12 years old and still looks cool even though I haven't done any correction. Of course, there are places where tattoos fade faster. Usually these are places where the skin is quickly renewed: palms, heels, knees. And where there is delicate skin and there is no constant friction (ribs, the inner part of the arms and legs), tattoos are, in fact, eternal.
Advice for those who have doubts about choosing a tattoo
Don't get a tattoo. Because then the regret time will come. Those who get tattoos are usually divided into two camps: the first are those who clearly know what they want. For them, a tattoo has a crazy meaning. Such people choose for a long time and think over a sketch in detail, the main thing for them is to scrupulously approach both the choice of a tattoo and the choice of a master. The second doesn't care, they just want to fill what they liked. And if you are not in these camps, then it is hardly worth getting a tattoo.
