A wonderful romantic story about friendship, forgiveness and love.
Quote: “Over and over again, Zoe played back that moment that had changed her whole life, as if something wanted to make her remember. Now. Until her time is over … ".
"Noble's Nest", Ivan Turgenev
According to the plot of the famous novel by Turgenev, the nobleman Fyodor Lavretsky returns to Russia after the betrayal of his wife. Visiting his cousin, he falls in love with young Liza Kalitina. After reading in a foreign magazine about the death of his wife, the hero confesses the feelings of his new acquaintance and learns that it is mutual. But Lavretsky's wife unexpectedly turns out to be alive. What will Fedor do and which of the two ladies will he prefer? You will find out if you read this famous book. It is interesting that the novel was translated into European languages immediately after the first publication in the Sovremennik magazine, and until the end of the 19th century it was one of the most discussed works of Russian literature abroad.
Quote: "Sometimes he was so longing for his wife that he seemed to give everything, perhaps even … would forgive her, just to hear her gentle voice again, to feel her hand in his hand again."
Gardening Charm by Sarah Allen
The Waverly family is very unusual: every woman here has a magical gift, and an apple tree grows in their garden, the fruits of which help predict the future. The story is based on Sidney Waverly, who returned home with her little daughter after a ten-year absence. Here the heroine is met by her sister, with whom they have never had an understanding. Girls will have to learn to live together, find out their relations with neighbors and arrange their personal lives. A poignant novel for those who believe in miracles. The book was awarded the Southern Bookseller Independent Alliance Award.
Quote: "When people think that you can give them something that no one else has, they are ready to make big sacrifices and pay huge money."
"Drama on the Hunt", Anton Chekhov
Hunting Drama is one of Chekhov's earliest stories. He wrote it at the age of twenty-four, choosing an unusual genre for himself - detective. Critics consider the work to be innovative: the story is told from the perspective of the criminal. Agatha Christie uses the same technique, but a similar novel of hers was published later - by that time, Chekhov's book had already been translated into English. Perhaps Anton Pavlovich inspired the detective queen herself! According to the plot of the book, a young girl suddenly dies, her elderly husband is convicted of a crime, and the real culprit of the tragedy remains at large. The author tells about what happened in detail, keeping the reader's attention until the very end. By the way, based on this story, the famous Soviet film "My affectionate and gentle animal" was shot with Oleg Yankovsky in one of the main roles.
Quote: "It is difficult to understand the human soul, but it is even more difficult to understand your own soul."
Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury is a science fiction classic. During his life, he wrote more than eight hundred works. But the novel "Dandelion Wine" stands out from the rest of the writer's work. Douglas Spaulding is twelve years old and has a whole summer ahead of him, filled with discoveries and disappointments, joys and sorrows. The boy watches a lot of what is happening around him and thinks about life, time, people and the dandelion drink that his grandfather prepares every year. A surprisingly light, warm and inspiring novel. In 1971, the Apollo 15 crew named a small crater on the Moon in honor of this book.
Quote: “No matter how much you try to remain who you once were, you can only be who you are here and now. Time is mesmerizing."
