Yes, only the awards went to men - such is the sexism. And some discoveries were even ahead of their time. As the first ever computer algorithm invented in 1842 by Ada Lovelace, Byron's daughter. Or the theory of jumping heights, invented in 1942 by the beautiful Hedy Lamarr, a Hollywood movie star like Vivien Leigh. Then her developments were not appreciated, but now they are actively used in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

The public consciousness is slowly turning, like a rusted carousel, towards women engaged in science. Now, according to the UN, there are only 29% of the total number of scientists. But the girls in white coats bent over the microscope are no longer looked at condescendingly, their merits are recognized.

Beautyhack editor Tatyana Chernikova talks about ten female research institutes who won the For Women in Science competition organized by L'Oréal and UNESCO. Scientists up to 35 years old working in institutes and universities could apply. In total, 335 people from 45 cities of Russia applied for the scholarship this year. Of these, the jury members (doctors of sciences, academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences and professors) selected 10 finalists engaged in research in the field of physics, chemistry, biology and medicine. The judges looked at the scientific significance and practical benefits of the work, the opportunity to implement projects, as well as the candidate's desire to continue her career at home. Well, I, as if spellbound, looked at the winners themselves. I confess that I had a different idea of ​​the laboratory workers!
