We do not understand why not a single Hollywood story with this plot has yet appeared: the love of French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Trogneau Macron would definitely have triumphed at the box office. There are several key points that will work at once: the classic "Cinderella" - from a rural teacher to the first lady of France. A strong woman who lives by her heart and, as a result, does not suffer, but wins. And, of course, incredible love, which is contrary to all accepted norms, but so strong that it survived almost 25 years of difficulties and obstacles and did not weaken. It is not surprising that Bridget Macron evokes not condemnation in French women, but admiration. We invite you to be inspired by this story.

Emmanuel is 15. He just played in one of the plays at his school, which was directed by Bridget Trogneau.

Bridget is a schoolteacher, she is 39. Teaches French literature, Latin and drama (theater). In 1993, the teenager Emmanuelle plays in her production of the play by Eduardo de Filippo "The Art of Comedy". During rehearsals, they get closer: Emmanuelle amazes her with her mature mind beyond her years. And a year later they have an affair.

Parents, of course, were shocked. They considered it a youthful hobby, a whim, something that would pass by itself. They frankly did not understand Bridget: what could a mature, successful woman find in a boy? A woman who has a family - a husband and three children, one of whom, for a moment, is the same age as Macron. Desperate to avoid a scandal, they send him to Paris so he can finish his final year of high school there. It was two hours south of their home in Amiens.

But how can a 16-year-old man in love keep this ridiculous distance? Every weekend he went home with "a suitcase full of dirty linen and one thought in his head - to see Bridget."

Her family found out about their relationship in the summer of 1994 after they were caught sunbathing by the pool at Bridget's parents' house. Almost all weekends while Macron was still in high school, they met by the pool, and he had to hide in the bushes if anyone came home.

“Day after day, her friends with whom she was planning a vacation refused to talk to her.”

As soon as the student-teacher relationship became the subject of local gossip, neighbors and friends in Amiens began sending anonymous letters to the headquarters of the chocolate and pasta factory run by the Bridget family, denouncing the relationship of the lovers. Because even for the French, free from love prejudices, it was too much. André Louis, Bridget's husband, took the news of his wife's infatuation with a teenager "like a slap in the face," especially because their daughter, Lawrence, was Macron's classmate. He immediately left the city and felt so humiliated that several years later he refused to return even to his mother's funeral in Amiens. He was never seen again.

The divorce dragged on for decades, and during this time Macron went to university to study politics and international relations, but his passion for Bridget remained the same.

“Every Friday after our Spanish lesson, he ran to the station and got on the train,” said Gaspar Ganzer, who studied at the university with Macron in Strasbourg.

Although Macron's friends were initially shocked by his relationship with Bridget, the couple decided to get married in the fall of 2007, a year after Bridget's divorce. He was 29. She was 54. Together with his wife's children, he also inherited her seven grandchildren.

The wedding took place at the city hall in the coastal town of Le Touquet, the same place where Bridget married her first husband in 1974, and where her family owned a summer house. Bridget was in a short white dress. Her three children were in attendance, along with other family members and Macron's parents.

“Each of you is a witness of these last 14 years,” - said Macron, making a toast to his bride and new family. “And you accepted us. You made us who we are today … I want to thank you for loving us as we are, and I want to thank the children of Bridget, because it was not easy for them."

After the wedding, the couple moved to Paris to support Macron's growing political career. For this, Bridget left her job as a teacher and focused on her husband's career. She gave him a speech and corrected the scripts of the performance, as she once staged and corrected school productions. Bridget has always been in the shadows, but not only for an external viewer: she played a huge role in the formation of Macron as a politician. And unsurprisingly, she ended up becoming her husband's top consultant when he became finance minister in François Hollande's government in 2014.

She stayed by his side while he ran for president and withstood explosive attacks in French media, including accusations that Macron used her as a cover for his gay sex.

Having decided to run for president, the Macron couple, who until this moment did not willingly let outsiders into the details of their novel, suddenly started talking openly about it. France needed clear guidelines and values, and Emmanuelle and Brigitte, who were dedicated and cherishing their marriage, were perfect role models. Age difference? Macron replied: "If it were me 20 years older than my wife, no one would have any questions."

As a result, almost two years after her husband took office, the first lady of France has found support for herself, thanks to the couple's strategy, which is not to downplay their relationship, but to keep it at the center of her presidential image. As Macron told the French radio channel RTL before the elections: "She was always on my side, she is my balance."

The couple does not plan to have common children - Bridget is currently 66 years old, giving birth at this age is already problematic. But Macron is not embarrassed by this: he calls Bridget's grandchildren his grandchildren, plays with them with pleasure and feeds them from a bottle. He also has an excellent relationship with his wife's children: the Macron family often gathers for picnics with a large and diverse composition. That's what it means - high relationships! But the main thing is that everyone is happy.

And we asked a psychologist why we are so partial to this story.

- Society is programmed to survive. It can survive if all males and females enter into relationships leading to procreation. And here - the misappropriation of a young, healthy gene pool for a not very fertile woman. Of course, such relations are very clinging at the level of public morality and cause collective censure. In addition, Bridget could be his mother - their age difference is so great. Our subconscious shouts: "Alarm, this is incest!" On the other hand (according to Grandpa Freud, of course), we all live with repressed sexual emotions towards our parents. And here it was as if the realization of the secret desire of each person took place - therefore, some part of us is even a little sick of the success of this couple. That is, the attitude towards Macrons for most people is ambivalent (in two ways):they provoke both anger and approval at the same time.
