In quarantine, the recipes of our grandmothers received a second life - they pulled us to everything natural and homemade. First, stars and healthy lifestyle bloggers moved on to them, then they grabbed everything. As a result, for more than two months in Google, the rating of requests for "hair lightening with lemon juice" (read here the experience of Lana Del Rey), "rinsing hair with vinegar" (tested by our beauty director at the link) and "masks at home" have been growing in Google. And recently, recipes with good old soda have entered a new round of popularity: influencers swear eternal loyalty to her and assure her of magical properties, if taken internally every day. And also, they say, soda improves the condition of the skin if you make masks out of it, and helps to lose weight if you take baths with it.
The editorial staff of BeautyHack.ru is in no hurry to follow the trend, but first understands all the pros and cons of baking soda for the body, skin and the process of losing weight with a nutritionist, beautician and trainer. Read carefully, recipes with soda do not always work and are not suitable for everyone.
If baking soda is taken orally: more contraindications than benefits
The network advises to dilute half a teaspoon of baking soda in water and take the drink in the morning on an empty stomach. They say that it has a beneficial effect on the body and starts the process of losing weight - over time, excess fluid leaves, metabolism improves.

- Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) - a white powder that is used in the food industry, in cooking. Its main property is to neutralize acids and burns and reduce the acidity of gastric juice. Often, baking soda is used as an antacid for stomach and duodenal ulcers. But in this case, the effect of irritation of the walls of the stomach is possible, which, in turn, with gastritis and ulcers, will bring additional pain. Also, there is no need for soda if you are healthy: it makes no sense to reduce the acidity of gastric juice, because thanks to it, digestive processes occur.
Also, the use of baking soda is contraindicated in the presence of kidney disease, low acidity of the stomach, hypocalcemia and hypokalemia (impaired calcium metabolism in the body), pregnancy and lactation, allergies to sodium bicarbonate. It is not recommended to drink soda and with a tendency to edema, diabetes mellitus.
If, nevertheless, you decide to take soda, then you should first undergo a medical examination.
It is necessary to use soda with great care, there are many cases of poisoning with it.
Baking soda can be used as an antiseptic mouthwash to help relieve swelling. But in this case, it is important to understand that the antiseptic properties of this ingredient are poorly expressed.
And the last - the processes of losing weight in the body occur only when a calorie deficit is created. Soda and the process of fat burning are not related in any way!
Baking soda for skin: great antiseptic, but not for everyone
Homemade masks with baking soda can help fight inflammation, acne and have a rejuvenating effect - that's what natural care proponents believe. Also, some stars and bloggers say that they wash with a solution of soda. What does the beautician think about it?

- Baking soda is often found in cosmetic formulations and as pure sodium bicarbonate. In all cases, it has antiseptic properties and stabilizes the pH. If you use soda as directed by a specialist, it is absolutely safe.
For problem skin prone to inflammation, it is possible to use soda as a mask: the soda is diluted with water to a pasty consistency and applied to the face for 10-15 minutes. This mask has an antiseptic effect and is recommended to be used 1-2 times a week.
You can also add small amounts of baking soda to your usual cleanser. But such a composition should be applied to the face no more than twice a week.

Soda in its pure form is sometimes used as a light scrub-peeling, which helps to remove the superficial stratum corneum, reducing hyperkeratosis (especially important for the plantar part of the feet), making the skin smoother.
However, like any product, soda has contraindications. It should not be used as homemade masks and scrubs for owners of sensitive, thin and dehydrated skin.
Baking soda baths: the best option after workouts, but with one caveat
Soda baths are a favorite procedure for those who regularly and seriously engage in sports. Baking soda helps flush lactic acid out of your muscles, making them less sore after exercise. Plus relaxes muscles, removes excess water, makes the skin elastic and smooth.

- Soda-salt baths have been recommended to me by my coach for a long time. These baths help relax the muscles and relieve muscle soreness the day after exercise. When you train for 5-6 hours a day, this is a real salvation. Many people say that soda and salt also remove toxins from the body, help to lose weight, and make the skin smoother. It seems to me that similar properties also exist. I notice that after the bath, the skin becomes even and velvety.
For a soda-salt bath, you will need half a package of baking soda and 1 kg of salt (I use regular sea salt, I buy from Ozon). The ingredients are added to hot water, which must be immersed in very slowly - I usually first lower my legs, then slowly sink completely. You need to take a bath before bedtime and no more than 10 minutes, this time is quite enough, further stress can be for the body. While taking a bath, you can drink warm water or even better herbal tea. And then you should dress warmly and immediately go to bed to feel the maximum relaxation.
You can take baths three to four times a week. But they, of course, have contraindications - pregnancy, lactation. Also, in case of chronic diseases, it is worth consulting a doctor. And also trust your feelings: for example, if you can't stand it for 10 minutes, then get out of the bath at the first discomfort. For beginners, you can start with 5 minutes.
