We seem to be aware that there are foods that are bad for the health and enamel of teeth. But we still can't refuse our favorite caramels, coffee and croutons. It used to be thought that tooth enamel can only deteriorate from sweets, but it turned out that there are many products in the world that spoil teeth in one way or another. We asked the well-known dentist Vladimir Nikolaevich Shipkov what kind of enemy labels you need to know.

The choice of products must be approached very responsibly: sometimes it turns out that healthy and rich in vitamins fruits and vegetables have a bad effect on the health of teeth and tooth enamel. For example, various acids and even natural dyes are aggressive components that destroy enamel.

Due to the fact that tooth enamel is very sensitive, it can either become covered with microcracks (which are almost invisible at first), or change color in several tones. Therefore, all Hollywood stars carefully monitor their diet, not only because they are afraid of gaining excess weight, but also to keep their teeth healthy.

So what foods to avoid:

Multi-colored dyes. Bright gummies, colorful candies and other sweets - sometimes you really want to return to childhood and forget about all your worries. However, if you abuse such sweets, new problems can be added to old problems, for example, darkening of the enamel. Food colors (even natural ones) color not only the tongue, but also the teeth.

Popcorn. It would seem that sweet or salty popcorn does no harm: there are few calories, there are no dyes in the composition. However, everyone forgets about the unpleasant properties of popcorn: its remains often get stuck between the teeth, thereby injuring the gums. For those who still cannot deny themselves the usual portion of popcorn, there is a tip: choose a delicacy without unnecessary caramel and various spices. Also, rinse your mouth out with water as soon as possible to remove any corn residues. And be sure to use dental floss - this way you will save yourself from problems with your teeth and gums. Avoid trendy, multicolored popcorn: these food coloring will negatively affect the condition and color of your enamel.

Dark berries. For the color of tooth enamel, not only all kinds of dyes are dangerous, but also some natural products. Spring and summer is a period when everyone tries to eat more vegetables, fruits and berries. However, it is the berries that can badly affect the color of your enamel. Blueberries, blackberries, sweet cherries, cherries, cranberries - if a berry “paints” the tongue, it also stains tooth enamel. I don’t want to give up the berries, but there is a way out: rinse your mouth thoroughly or brush your teeth after each "vitamin snack".

Tea and coffee. Alas, from the frequent use of an invigorating drink, the tooth enamel can darken by several tones. The organic acids found in coffee are to blame. Therefore, dentists often advise drinking coffee through a straw.

By the way, you shouldn't rejoice in those who prefer to drink several cups of tea instead of coffee. This drink also contains tannins, which give the teeth a yellow tint.

Therefore, after drinking tea, it is better to rinse your mouth with water or chew gum for a few minutes.

Vegetables and fruits. Lemon, grapefruit, orange and pineapple contain citric acid, which contributes to the destruction of enamel. Therefore, despite the fact that such fruits are generally good for the body, it is worth rinsing your mouth with a special foam or just water. Vegetables are good too: Carrots and beets, for example, contain many natural colors that can turn any smile on a yellowish tint over time. Therefore, it is worth limiting the use of such products, especially on the day after professional cleaning or installation of a seal.

Do not underestimate various spices: for example, turmeric and curry are the best flavor enhancers for many dishes, however, they are not good for tooth enamel. The best "doctor" after such seasonings is green tea with lemon.

Important:

Even if you follow the recommendations of the dentist, this does not mean that you can refuse scheduled visits to the dental clinic. Remember that in order for your teeth to always be healthy, and a snow-white smile, you need to visit a specialist every six months.
