How to identify dehydrated skin

By Yana Verbitskaya, cosmetologist at the Austrian health center Verba Mayr

- Dehydrated skin can be called if it does not contain enough water and also cannot retain moisture. It is important to understand that any type of skin can be dehydrated, and it is quite simple to check this: you need to pinch your face. If after that no trace remains on the skin, then everything is in order. If, after pinching, wrinkles, creases or redness remain, then this is a clear signal of a lack of moisture.

Another fact: dehydration manifests itself in different ways depending on the type of skin. So, oily skin reacts to a lack of water with increased sebum secretion, while dry skin, on the contrary, begins to peel off, becomes very sensitive.

Why does the skin become dehydrated?

Many factors can be attributed to the causes of moisture loss. Age plays a significant role, because the older a person is, the less hyaluronic acid is secreted by the body. Affects skin condition and adherence to drinking regime, a large number of hours spent in the sun, as well as unbalanced or aggressive care.

Treatment for dehydrated skin

If you have dry skin, the first step is to moisturize it. Components such as hyaluronic acid and aloe vera work best with this. You should also make up for the lack of sebum, for example, using vegetable oils (for example, jojoba, shea, argan). To cleanse such skin, you need to use only mild products: milk or cleansing creams.

In fat, dehydrated skin but there are other problems: it lacks its sebum, but the other components that protect the skin from moisture loss, no. Therefore, care for such skin should be moisturizing, but light and not clogging the pores (this is usually indicated on the packaging of beauty products). Among the oils, it is better to choose those that regulate the production of sebum (apricot, almond, jojoba). The best cleansers are those that have exfoliating properties, as well as get rid of dead skin particles and regulate sebum production.

What means to choose

- When choosing products for the care of dehydrated skin of any type, it is better to choose those where there are no aggressive surfactants and alcohol that damage the protective layer. Also, do not limit yourself to one cream, it is better to include exfoliating cleansers, moisturizing lotions or tonics, serums, oils in your beauty routine. That is, it is important not to neglect the steps in the care: immediately after cleansing, apply a tonic, then serum or oil and immediately cream. However, you can choose universal moisturizers that suit everyone. For example, I can recommend Crem 28, Yon-ka and Sothys light moisturizing anti-age cream. In terms of oils, I recommend Ansaligy's Revitalizing Silk Oil, which is ideal even for very sensitive skin.
