“Today in the dental office you can solve absolutely any problem with a smile. The main thing is to decide how to carry out the restoration. Installing veneers is a great opportunity to hide age-related changes in enamel. The procedure is indicated for increased abrasion and orthodontic problems."
What are veneers?
Veneers are dental microprostheses in the form of onlays for veneering the front teeth. They are a strong plate that covers the front of the tooth and goes to its cutting edge.
The service life of veneers is on average 5 to 20 years - it depends on the quality of the material from which they are made. The time for their production ranges from 1 to 2 weeks.
What are the contraindications to their installation?
Veneers cannot be installed in all cases. There are also contraindications to the procedure: severe tooth destruction, the presence of large fillings, as well as fillings installed on the inside of the tooth, pronounced bite defects, bruxism, poor oral hygiene, the presence of bad habits.
If the patient is not going to waste his time caring for veneers, their installation will be a waste of money.
What types of veneers are there and what is the difference between them ?

Among veneers, there are ceramic, composite and lumineers.
Ceramic are considered the most durable in composition and are more close to the natural appearance of the tooth. They do not darken, look quite natural and do not differ from their own teeth. Their service life is not less than 10 years if handled correctly.
Composite - a fairly budget option for overlays. They have high strength, but visually they may differ slightly from native teeth in shades and transparency. Over time, they are able to change color to a darker and hazy one. The service life with careful wearing will be about 5 years.
Lumineers are the most expensive and absolutely harmless option for creating a beautiful smile. They are made of porcelain and differ from veneers in increased strength, much thinner in appearance and look more natural in the oral cavity. To install them, additional processing of teeth is not required (part of the enamel is not grinded). They are installed in a short time and are absolutely painless. However, such prostheses are made only in America.
How is the installation procedure going?
It takes place in several stages and takes on average about 2 weeks: preparation of the tooth, replacement of old fillings, treatment of caries, selection of the color of the veneer, grinding off a part of the enamel to fix it, creating a dental impression, installing a temporary plastic plate, making a veneer in laboratory conditions, installation of a finished veneer on a special compound.
What are the pros and cons of the procedure ?
As with any medical manipulation, the installation of veneers has pros and cons that are important to understand.
It's easier to talk about the pros. The main thing: the ability to make a smile delightful in the shortest possible time, without making any effort, and even for many years. Veneers are made from hypoallergenic and biocompatible materials with human tissues. Plaque does not accumulate on their surfaces.
Microprostheses are resistant to food containing coloring pigments.
Veneers will not change their color from drinking coffee, red wine, strong tea or smoking.
As for the disadvantages of installing veneers, the main one is the inability to remove them.
Preparing for the installation of veneers requires the preparation of the enamel: the enamel coating is removed on a layer with a thickness of 0.5 to 0.7 millimeters. The thickness of enamel removal is insignificant, but this process has negative consequences - the tooth loses its natural protection against bacteria, the action of aggressive chemical and mechanical factors. If in the future the veneers need to be removed, it is necessary either to install the patch again, or to carry out artistic restoration of dental surfaces using a different technology.
If we talk about composite veneers, their disadvantages: darkening of the material and weak strength - in this case, you should not gnaw on solid food and you must observe careful oral care. With severe deformation of the teeth, which was corrected by the installation of veneers, a person's diction can significantly change. There will be a foreign body sensation in the mouth. But this passes over time.
With an unprofessional performance of this procedure, a number of negative consequences arise. This is a change in the color of the installed lining, and the occurrence of hypersensitivity of the teeth, and injury to the soft tissues of the oral cavity. And most importantly, they do not make the teeth themselves healthier and stronger.

To establish or not is a personal choice of everyone. But before you decide, I advise you to weigh the pros and cons, and then find a competent specialist.
