Now laser hair removal is considered the most innovative way to get rid of unwanted hair. The types of lasers are regularly improved, and the number of fans of the procedure is growing. The effectiveness of the procedure is captivating: in 6-10 visits to a specialist (depending on individual characteristics and the type of apparatus used), you can get rid of hair forever.
The whole story has only one problem: the consequences of laser exposure on the human body are not fully known. This is due to the fact that we are dealing with a relatively young procedure. The first laser was invented in 1960. And it turned out to be extremely unsuccessful: its effect on the skin led to damage and burns. In the 70s, alexandrite lasers appeared - safer, but still slow and ineffective. It took 40 years to develop an effective laser hair removal system.
Inna Kovaleva, a cosmetologist at the Solo clinic, explains that before a course of laser hair removal, it is imperative to visit a cosmetologist: “He will find out if you have any contraindications to the procedure (among them - pregnancy, cancer, damaged skin in the treatment area, psoriasis, herpes, atopic dermatitis). An extremely rare occurrence is individual intolerance to laser exposure. It is also a contraindication. In my practice, this situation was encountered only once."

Some girls fear the effect of the laser on the internal organs. But a gynecologist and anti-age specialist of the ASTRAMED innovation laboratory Elena Molokova dispels this myth:
“Modern laser devices are usually very accurately calibrated to the depth at which they are influenced. With good quality of the apparatus and a well-executed procedure, there should be no effect on the internal organs. This hair removal method is safe when used by a trained professional. But it should be borne in mind that damages are permissible if, for example, the doctor has violated the power of the apparatus. " Elena also explains that there should not be any pathological impact, since the depth of the impact is small. If the girl has no other problems with the reproductive system, then there should be no problems in the future either.
How to know that you can trust the clinic or salon where you epilate
Experts recommend doing laser hair removal in medical centers and clinics. “A clinic and a beauty salon are not the same thing. The undeniable advantage of the clinic is its specialists. This is a medical institution, and its staff consists of qualified doctors - doctors with higher medical education: dermatocosmetologists or dermatovenerologists who have completed a specialized training course in the profile of "cosmetology". They not only know perfectly the human anatomy and physiology, but also have a clear idea of what the effect of this or that hardware technology on the body is, what is the mechanism of the effect obtained,”explains Inna Kovaleva. Other manipulations are carried out by specialists in hardware cosmetology with secondary medical education, who have passed the specialization "cosmetology" and a compulsory training course in those technologies, with whom they work. Unlike clinics, in beauty salons, hardware cosmetology is often performed by employees without medical education who have completed short cosmetic courses and are only aware of the sequence of work on this device.
“And, of course, all devices and drugs that are used in the clinic are certified, that is, allowed on the territory of the Russian Federation. All this can be clarified when contacting the clinic,”adds Inna.
What about safety during the procedure, and how to prepare for laser hair removal
Inna Kovaleva highlights a number of procedures that cannot be done before laser hair removal. Among them:
1. Plucking and lightening hair (tweezers, waxing, sugaring and laser hair removal are incompatible. The work of the laser is directly related to the hair pigment under the skin, and if it is not there, then the beam will simply have nothing to act on).
2. Chemical peels (2 weeks before and after the hair removal procedure).
3. Two days before and two days after hair removal, use belongings and creams with glycolic acid and retinol.
4. Auto bronzers also have to be postponed for a couple of weeks (this is especially true if facial hair is being removed).
5. Staying in the sun without SPF cream 2 weeks before and after the procedure is undesirable - the tissues become more sensitive to ultraviolet rays. If you already have a tan, you should consult your doctor about the possibility of the procedure.
If you have heard about cases of burns after laser hair removal, this could happen for several reasons: an unqualified specialist who violated safety procedures; non-certified device (this is very dangerous: even in the absence of burns, there is no guarantee that there will be no complications); violation by the patient of safety rules.
Wax or laser hair removal?

Another common stereotype is the eternal confrontation between lasers and wax depilation. In fact, experts advise combining the two procedures. Explains the master of wax and laser hair removal at the Wax & Go salon on Malaya Bronnaya Maria Chernyshova: “Combining laser and wax is quite simple. Some people prefer laser on some areas, wax on others. There are times when wax doesn't work - when ingrown hairs appear, for example. There will always be demand for both procedures."
According to Maria, everyone has different motivations to switch to a laser: someone is tired of constantly removing hair, someone wants to get rid of hair for a long time in some areas, but in others they do not bother him at all. They do not grow quickly and in general it is not a problem to come to wax epilation once a month. Someone for a natural lifestyle and chooses the most "natural" way to remove hair. Or read a lot of myths about laser hair removal and "never for anything"
Laser hair removal is not about the future. It is about solving a problem, not about abandoning previous hair removal methods. “We even have an option to combine these types of hair removal. Sometimes, on thin sensitive skin, the hairs begin to grow after wax so soft that they constantly grow in. Neither scrub nor acid sprays help. In this case, we advise guests to do 2-3 laser treatments and return to wax. This often solves the problem, but at the same time it does not spend much budget and time waiting for the result. Wax is fast, the effect is momentary, and in our case it doesn't hurt, skin care and time to relax in a noisy metropolis."
