Skin microbiome
On the skin of each of us live about two kilograms of bacteria of almost 5000 strains. It's not a joke! The microbiome is called the second genome, and it plays a huge role in maintaining youth, beauty and normal functioning of the body: bacteria interact with cells, affecting their vital functions.
Our "neighbors" can be divided into two large groups: resident microorganisms - those that "live" with us constantly and have the ability to recover from negative impact, and transit - these "comrades" get on the skin from the environment, but for a long time on it are delayed.

Under normal conditions, none of these groups are considered pathogenic. But once the skin microbiome is disrupted, microorganisms can turn into bitter enemies, changing their status to "opportunistic pathogens." This can happen when: a violation of the integrity of the skin, a decrease in immunity, improper care and nutrition - there are many reasons.
The richer the microflora, the more chances that the "good" bacteria will leave no opportunity for the "bad" ones to harm our body. The uncontrolled growth of opportunistic microorganisms leads to the development of diseases, therefore, the microflora should be treated with attention and awe.
How to preserve microflora

Part of the microbiome is genetically determined. And this is as unique a phenomenon as a fingerprint - there are no people with exactly the same strains. In addition to the genetic factor, the microboim determines the way of life, race, climatic conditions and hygiene.
Frequent causes of microflora disorders: taking antibiotics, excessive love of antibacterial agents, a large amount of simple carbohydrates in the diet, stress, poor ecology. By the way, about the latter. Getting on the skin surface, free radicals, salts of heavy metals and other compounds affect the "good" bacteria, destroying the lipid membrane and leading to their death. This can lead to imbalances.
There are many ways to change the microbiome. The simplest is the use of pro- and prebiotics. This approach is effective for restoring the microflora of all systems and organs. And if everything is clear with the digestive tract. The restoration of the skin microbiome needs some clarification.
Not so long ago, cosmetics appeared on the beauty market, which allow to "populate" beneficial microorganisms on the skin. For this, specialists use preparations of three types: with prebiotics - they create an environment for reproduction, probiotics - these are bacteria themselves, which act as "food" for friendly microflora, and cosmetics with living "fighters of the invisible front". The latter are very few on sale today due to the complexity of storage.
The principle of action of cosmetics with prebiotics is based on the creation of ideal conditions for the reproduction and growth of "good" bacteria. Such drugs have shown themselves to be excellent in combating acne and restoring the skin after aggressive exposure. Some cosmetologists believe that the future belongs to such drugs.
Already now, it is possible to carry out a genetic analysis of the intestinal microbiome and give recommendations on nutrition to maintain a "useful" microflora. The same direction is actively developing in dermatology. Perhaps in the near future, specialists will begin to thoroughly examine the microflora before choosing cosmetics, even for home care.
