You can talk a lot and for a long time about the benefits of hair oils: they perfectly moisturize, protect against aggressive environmental influences, prevent the ends from flaking and make the strands soft, like Chinese silk. But this is subject to correct use. What mistakes do you make? Hairdresser-stylist Evgeny Shatokhin on how to use oils correctly.
Mistake # 1: leaving oil on your scalp for too short a time

If you think that burdock or, for example, castor oil will definitely work in an hour, you are wrong. The optimal exposure time is from 6 to 12 hours. This is how long it takes "useful" molecules to pass through the epidermal barrier. The exception is homogenized oils. Their molecules are much smaller than usual and quickly penetrate into the follicles.
Mistake # 2: using oils instead of thermal protection
In the line of some brands, there are indeed oils that protect against high temperatures. But if this information is not on the label, apply the product after you dry your hair. Oils that do not create a protective film, but penetrate deep into the hair, quickly heat up and cool down for a long time, destroying the stem.
Mistake # 3: using oils on fine hair every day

Owners of too thin hair should not use oil every day. It tends to accumulate. Over time, the strands become heavy from this - the follicles can not stand it, and the hair begins to fall out.
Mistake # 4: not using protective oils on the beach
Hair needs to be protected too! Especially from salt and chlorinated water. Be sure to apply argan oil to the ends before going to the pool or going to the beach - it will help keep your hair dry. Only the hair should be in a bun so that the sun does not heat it up - see point two.
Mistake # 5: apply oils all the way

Not every oil is designed for full length use. You need to read the instructions and strictly follow them. There are always additional ingredients in cosmetic oils. And not all of them are intended for the scalp - they can provoke dryness, irritation and even allergic reactions.
Mistake # 6: using too much oil
More is not better. Firstly, the hair after that looks unkempt, and secondly - heavier (see point # 3). If you overdid it a little, there are two ways to fix the situation: wash your hair, or dry your hair with a hairdryer.
Mistake # 7: adding oil to your conditioner

Balms, conditioners and masks have a balanced composition - the ingredients complement each other's action, enhancing the effect. The oil can act as an antagonist, suppressing the action of the active ingredients.
Mistake # 8: Don't Consider Your Hair Type
Oils work in different ways! Some soften, others protect, others prevent hair loss and stimulate metabolic processes. Consult a trichologist, or read information from several sources before applying the oil to your head.
