There is no more controversial topic in the health food debate than spicy foods. In such "philosophies" of nutrition, as Ayurveda, the sharpness is respected, and gastroenterologists - dislike. What is really worth believing?

1. From spicy lose weight

And this is partly true. Hot peppers contain a substance called capsaicin. It is this substance that creates the feeling of "fire" in the mouth and is able to speed up the metabolism. Capsaicin provokes an accelerated heart rate and a slight increase in temperature.

Plus, it is simply impossible to eat a lot of spicy food, that's why the portions of “spicy” lovers are much smaller than the standard ones. But do not think that you can only lose weight by adding pepper to your diet. For weight loss, a calorie deficit will always be responsible, and not a magic pill … Or magic pepper.

2. Digestion improves from acute

And this is indeed a true fact. Any hot and spicy spices stimulate the secretion of gastric juice. And this promotes blood flow to the walls of the stomach and the restoration of the mucous membrane.

3. Spicy foods kill bacteria

Indeed, capsaicin can kill some of the bacteria that enter the body with food. That is why spicy ginger is always served with raw fish rolls, and food from makashnits (kitchen on wheels) in Thailand is always full of hot spices.

4. Heartburn is the acute's best friend

Unfortunately, eating spicy foods triggers the release of hydrochloric acid and thus can lead to heartburn. It is for this reason that spicy food is not advised for expectant mothers - they often suffer from this ailment even without it.

5. From acute gastritis may appear

Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining. And this wine is not spicy and not even fried, but the bacteria living in the stomach - Helicobacter pylori. But if a person already has stomach problems, acute can only exacerbate them. Therefore, you do not need to be zealous with spicy food. Observe small portions and avoid spicy foods if you have a history of ulcers or gastritis.
