In order to understand which cream is right for you, you need to know what you are protecting against. If we are talking about sunlight, we must be wary of ultraviolet rays, namely UVA and UVB rays: they affect the aging process of our skin.

A-rays (UVA) are not retained by the ozone layer, so there are no obstacles for them: they can affect the skin through clothes, glass of a car, office, apartment. These rays are everywhere - on the islands, in the mountains, in megacities. They penetrate into the deep layers of the epidermis and have a negative effect on the dermis matrix, destroying collagen and elastin and accelerating the aging process.

B-rays (UVB), depending on location, season and weather, can partially penetrate the ozone layer. In the summer, they are always present. Of the advantages - it is thanks to these rays that vitamin D, which is so important for our body, is produced and a light tan appears. Of the minuses, with prolonged exposure, they can cause burns to the skin and cornea of the eyes, provoke damage to the lens and the appearance of cataracts, as well as activate the processes of photoaging, mutations of the cell genome and, as a result, cancer.

Here's what to do when choosing creams:

1. Pay attention to the SPF label: the higher the value, the more UVB rays the sunscreen will block! But always remember: the higher the SPF, the denser and thicker the texture, which is not very good for problem skin or skin prone to breakouts.

2. Give preference to physical (mineral) filters such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide (usually written on the front). These filters protect against UVA and UVB rays, do not degrade in light, are non-toxic and take effect immediately after they are applied to the skin. But remember: the higher the protection level of such filters, the whiter the cream will give on the skin. And the physical filters (which are in the product) are easy to rinse off or wash off with a towel, so remember to renew the cream every two hours.

Focus on:

- skin color: the lighter the skin, the longer it will take for it to adapt, so start with high SPF numbers;

- season: SPF is always higher in summer than in winter;

- time of day: during the daytime UVB rays touch the Earth as much as possible, so during the day, especially at sea, use SPF products;

- location: tropics, islands, mountains, middle band - the SPF filter should be higher where the intensity of the sun is higher;

What kinds of SPF creams are there?

- for every day - SPF15. This is a regular skin care cream that contains filters. It is perfect for urban environments;

- active means of protection - more than SPF30. I recommend them for sea and ski holidays.

In the presence of hyperpigmentation, after a course of chemical peelings, laser resurfacing, during pregnancy and lactation and hormonal imbalances, protection should be high.

5 quick measures if you get burned.

The choice of a trichologist: 7 means for a holiday at sea.

The choice of a beautician: 6 products for a vacation cosmetic bag.
