Allergies to cosmetics are common. It can appear unexpectedly. Redness, peeling, itching and other symptoms occur due to the content of certain components in cosmetics. “Both synthetic and natural ingredients can cause allergies. Of the synthetic, the most often give a reaction are fragrances, preservatives and aggressive dyes. Essential oils are in the lead among natural oils. Often the cause of allergy is not the component itself, but its concentration. This should be taken into account when choosing care products."
Allergy is an overactive immune system response caused by contact with an allergen. Its occurrence speaks of individual intolerance to some component in cosmetics, and not that it is, in principle, harmful.
Before going on sale, any product undergoes a toxicity test, and its safety must be confirmed by the Declaration of Conformity of the customs union (on the packaging of certified products there is an EAC mark). However, there are a number of approved ingredients that can provoke irritation when in contact with hypersensitive skin.

Preservatives
Preservatives are substances that make cosmetics last longer. They often cause allergies. Used as preservatives: parabens (Germaben II, Methylparben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben), formaldehyde compounds (Germall Plus, DMDM Hydantoin, Imadozolidinyl Urea, Diazolidinyl Urea), isothiazolinones (Kathon), phenoxyethanol (Optiphen), Optiphenic acids Acid / Sodium Benzoate). They should not be included in hypoallergenic cosmetics. Alternative - natural preservatives: tocopherol (vitamin E), silver, glycolic and salicylic acids.
Dyes
Synthetic dyes are used to make cosmetics look more "appetizing". Even the white color of the cream does not indicate their absence - it is obtained by adding titanium dioxide. If there are dyes, the packaging must be marked FD&C or D&C and then a number plate. Alternatives: carotenoids (give yellow, orange and red colors), polyphenols (red), chlorophylls (blue-green).
Perfume
Fragrances are most often added in order to kill the smell of the main components of the product. On the label, they are indicated by the word Parfum and separated by commas. The most common synthetic fragrances are: Linalool, Citronellol. Natural ones can also provoke allergies, so those with sensitive skin are better off choosing perfume-free cosmetics.
