From "Slave of Izaura" to "Prospect of Brazil"! On BeautyHack - the best Brazilian TV series for 36 years, which were broadcast in Russia.
Slave Izaura
The series premiered on October 11, 1976. In the USSR, Slave Izaura was shown only in 1988 - it was the first soap opera on Soviet television. In the international box office (the series was broadcast in more than 80 countries), the picture was released in a very abbreviated version: instead of 100 original episodes - only 30. This did not affect the success of the project! The story of the unfortunate girl Izaura captured the audience, and the then beginning actress Lucelia Santos (about how the fate of her and other famous actresses, read here) fans wrote letters and arranged double contests. Even small summer cottages in the USSR, after watching the series, began to be called "hacienda".
In 2004, a remake of "Izaura's Slave" was released. Bianca Rinaldi has already played the main role in this picture.
Senorita
One of the first Brazilian TV series shown in Russia after the success of Slave Izaura. The picture was released in 1986, and the action in it takes the viewer another 100 years earlier - the theme of the abolition of slavery in Latin America will be a favorite among the scriptwriters for several more years.
Just like Slave Izaura, this series is based on a novel from the 50s of the 20th century. The happy ending also remains unchanged - the last episode tells about the adoption of the famous Golden Law, which in 1888 finally abolished slavery in Brazil. One of the main roles in the series was played by "Izaura" Lucelia Santos. In 2006, during the filming of the remake, she was replaced on the set by Deborah Farabella (read about her here).
Secrets of the Tropicana
The world premiere took place in February 1993. The series, scripted by Ivany Ribeiro, is a remake of the black-and-white "soap opera" shown on TV Tupi in 1973. Gloria Perez played the main role.
The series tells the story of two sisters, very similar in appearance and diametrically opposite in character. Raquel dreams of a carefree and prosperous life, Ruth dreams of love and being loved. A Brazilian TV show would not be Brazilian without a love story. It's easy to guess: the sisters had one object of desire for two. But of course, all the vicissitudes will end well - love will save the world!
The most popular and memorable character in the film was not the twins, but Tonya, nicknamed "the lunatic", brilliantly played by Marcus Frota. For the role, Markus had to gain 7 kg. Just don't say you don't remember this character!
New victim
The series, directed by Globo, was released in 1995. In Russia, the premiere took place a year later - on July 15, 1996. The plot of the series is not quite usual for Brazilian telenovelas. It has a detective line reminiscent of the novel by Agatha Christie "Ten Little Indians" - the same allegorical list of victims in the form of beasts of the Chinese horoscope.
The “new victim” touched upon topics that were still whispered about in Russia at that time: drug addiction, prostitution, homosexuality. Many companies claimed to buy the telenovela, but they were not satisfied with the final. Especially for the European audience, the authors filmed the last episode separately, where the name of the killer was changed.
In the telenovela "A New Victim", the actor Alishandri Borges made his debut, whom the audience saw a few years later in the "Tower of Babel". The series was shown on four Russian channels.
Fatal legacy
Screenwriter Benedito Rui Barbosa has built a storyline around his favorite themes: the lives of Italian immigrants in Brazil and, of course, love. Telenovela became one of the highest rated on Brazilian television in the 90s.
The plot is based on the story of two warring families (Medzenga and Berdinatsia), who own coffee plantations. Several generations, war, irreconcilable disputes and hatred … Spoiler: it all ended with a wedding.
To create the image of Luana, the performer of one of the main roles, Patricia Pilar, took dozens of courses with reed carvers, and Raul Cortez had to master the Italian accent.
Cruel Angel
And again a remake! For the first time, the story of the obsessive love of the driver's daughter Nisi for the businessman Rodrigo and her "dirty game" to satisfy her own ambitions was shown in 1976. The main roles were played by Susana Vieira and José Vilker. According to statistics, the show was then watched by 90% of the Brazilian population. The ending of the original is sad: at the end of the film, Nishi dies in childbirth. The scriptwriters of the remake, released in 1997, turned out to be more humane and resourceful, leaving the heroine alive and even "giving" her female happiness.
In the name of love
The script for the TV series Globo was written by Manuel Carlos. The plot is based on the substitution of a child; in parallel, the authors raise the topics of alcoholism, domestic violence, betrayal and unrequited love.
The picture brought together a star "trooper" of popular Brazilian actors: Susana Vieira, Regina and Gabriela Duarte (yes, yes, they are real, not on-screen mother and daughter), Viviana Pasmantes. The first episodes of the soap opera were filmed in Venice.
"What are you ready for in the name of love?" - this was the slogan of the advertising campaign timed to coincide with the release of the series in Russian distribution.
Tower of Babel
The plot is based on the biblical parable of the Tower of Babel, in which people were punished for their pride and misunderstanding of each other. The heroes of the series behaved no better: hypocrisy, betrayal, aggression, revenge - these are just a small part of what the audience was immersed in. Released after twenty years in prison, José Clementino decides to take revenge on his former boss, on whose testimony the prosecution was once based. He decides to blow up the Tropical Towers shopping center, which belongs to the hated enemy, and puts the plan into action. It would seem that the facts are on the surface: the criminal is obvious. But the writers leave the viewer in the dark and make them doubt until the last episode.
The same "beauty from Morumbi" is the heroine of this particular series. And also two real married couples played in it: Gloria Menéses and Tarsisiu Meira, Edson Selulari and Claudia Raia.
Land of Love
One of the most famous works of the Globo company - a short story of 221 episodes was released in 1999, and in 2002 it was already broadcast in Russia (also in an abridged version). In the center of events is the same end of the 19th century, but already through the eyes of Italian immigrants who went to the New World for a better life. The real stars of that time were entrusted to portray the hardships of immigration and love suffering - Ana Paula Arosio, Thiago Lacerda, Raul Cortez, Antonio Fagundes. And Ana and Thiago even specially learned Italian before filming.
It was “The Land of Love” that inspired director Benedito Rui Barboza to create another telenovela, but with a completely new plot. More about her.
Land of Love, Land of Hope
The series, unpopular in Brazil, was noted for excellent ratings in other countries - most of all fans have "Land of Love, Land of Hope" in Russia, Italy, Israel. The film began to be filmed in 2002, and after six months its main inspirer - screenwriter Benedito Rui Barbosa - was forced to leave the project because he could not cope with the volume of work. The series is also dedicated to the life of Italian immigrants, but at a different time - the 30s of the 20th century. In the United States at this time, the Great Depression, and in São Paulo, immigrant Italian and Jewish families fall in love, part, experience personal tragedies and reunite. All 209 episodes of the novel were shown in Russia in 2003. This project also became one of the most stellar for Globo - Ana Paula Arosio, Reinaldo Gianecchini, Antonio Fagundes, Jose Mayer participated in the filming.
Mistress of Destiny
The series premiered in the early 2000s. The main character, played by Susana Vieira, has five children. She herself had to punch her way in life to ensure a comfortable future. Many years ago, a newborn daughter was stolen from the heroine, for whom she is fighting, being already a respectable lady.
The plot is based on a real story, taken by the scriptwriters from the "Incidents" section of the local newspaper. The article described a woman who kidnapped a child in 1986 and raised him as her own until the police found her. The kidnapper's second child was also stolen - it was discovered 17 years later!
One of the most memorable characters in the series was the villainous Nazara, for whose performance the actress Renata Sorra received more than one prestigious award.
Family bonds
Elena (forever young Vera Fisher) is a beautician. She is 44, she has two grown children: the unemployed engineer Fred, who is married to an eccentric girl, and 22-year-old Camilla, who is studying in London. At the beginning of the film, Elena meets a young doctor, Edu, who has just graduated. And then everything is as if in a fog: gossip, intrigue, kisses, meetings and partings.
Do I need to clarify that mom and daughter fell in love with the same person? There was a happy ending, of course. But at what cost did the main characters get it?
Castles in the air
It was released in Russia on January 3, 2001. The series tells about three sisters: Julia, a successful journalist, Beth, chasing millionaires, and Seli, who dreams of becoming a nun. Their father is seriously ill: after a coma, his memory is lost. On the way to recovery, the head of the family and his daughters face serious trials. For those who are especially curious, we advise you to watch the last three episodes - do it in the evening!
Clone
One of the highest rated TV series ever! The leader's "bandage" has not yet been taken away from him. Even representatives of Generation Z know the story of the rebellious Muslim woman Jadi, played by Giovanna Antonelli (read about how the actresses from the series look now).
Telenovella is worth seeing and revising, if only because of the outfits: costume designers worked on two continents - in Africa and South America. The scenario deserves special attention. The popular actress Gloria Perez became its author. She did not twist the plot around the love of young people from different social backgrounds or lost children, focusing on Islamism and the topic of human cloning. Boldly for 2001!

Brazil Avenue
Prospect Brazil is one of those rare series that can now be watched in good quality online. It was filmed by Globo relatively recently - in 2012. In 2013, it was broadcast in Russia. The series takes place in 2000 and 2012. The main character is a little girl Rita, in front of the audience, growing into a courageous girl who wants to avenge her father's death. She is played by Deborah Falabella. For the actress, this series was not only another successful project with an 8 rating on the IMDb website, but also the beginning of a relationship with Murilo Benicio. Now the actors are happy in a civil marriage, which they willingly talk about on Instagram!
