Modern technologies allow you to enjoy fresh berries even a few months after the season has passed on them: you put them in the freezer and forget. But if the hostesses have been making stocks of broccoli, strawberries, cauliflower for a long time, it simply does not occur to them to send some products to the section where the air temperature is -15 ° C (if not lower). But in vain! After all, for many of them cold is not at all contraindicated - they tolerate it perfectly without losing useful properties and taste. BeautyHack has compiled its list of unexpected discoveries. Stock up on cling film, foil, plastic bags and prepare a freezer space for the new inhabitants!
Milk
Perhaps in every family at least once on one shelf there were several bottles of milk (unless, of course, you are not a zealous opponent of dairy products). At least one of them had to be sacrificed due to the short shelf life. Take your time next time to put an extra bottle of milk in the trash can. Her place is in the freezer! But, before sending the bottle there, pour out a little milk from it: when it freezes, it increases in volume and the vessel may burst. Freeze the product that has a longer shelf life.
You can store milk in the freezer for up to six weeks. Remove the bottle the day before use and place it on the shelf in the refrigerator.
Nuts
Peeled nuts spoil quickly and acquire a bitter taste due to their high fat content. Under the influence of daylight, air or metal (never store nuts in metal containers!) They form aflatoxins - substances that negatively affect the liver and can cause severe allergic reactions. If they appear, heat treatment will no longer help the nuts. In this case, you do not need to fry them or toss them in the oven - throw them away immediately! However, the sad fate for nuts can be avoided. Place them in a plastic vacuum container and send them to the freezer. They can be stored there for up to eight months.
Flour
With long-term storage, even if it is organized according to all the rules, flour can "stir". The shelf life of this whimsical product varies from 6 to 12 months (the lower the grade, the shorter the shelf life). However, you can extend the life of flour by freezing it. Pour it from the bag into a plastic container and leave it on the top shelf of the refrigerator for two days. After that, send the container with flour to the freezer.
This storage method is more hygienic than economical: both mold and insects are afraid of low temperatures.
Pesto
Got a rich harvest of basil at your dacha? It's time to stock up on pesto sauce. The recipe for a delicious addition to pasta and not only you can easily find on the Internet (a version of pesto from the famous Jamie Oliver), but we will now tell you about the secrets of its storage. Divide the prepared sauce into ice cube trays and place in the freezer. After freezing, fold the finished cubes into a container.
You can store pesto in the freezer for up to eight months.
Tomatoes and tomato paste
In cooking, tomato paste is not used very often, and for many recipes, one or two tablespoons of this sauce are enough (for which you have to buy a whole can). If you're not the type to throw away food, pour the tomato paste into ice cube trays! Convenient, affordable and, most importantly, immediately divided into portions.
Ring-frozen tomatoes are a godsend for lovers of omelet with tomatoes for breakfast. Remove a few wedges and add to the dish without first defrosting. Tip: freeze the tomatoes on a platter and only then pour them into a container, otherwise it will be difficult to separate them later.
Boiled corn
Alas, the century of delicious autumn delicacies is short-lived: it is difficult to find boiled corn by November (almost like snowdrops in January). But we have good news: it can be frozen! Wrap the pre-cooked ears in plastic wrap and place in the freezer.
Cooked corn can be stored for up to six months.
Melon
Frozen melon will help preserve memories of the past summer and delight you with a sweet aroma in cold winters. Peel the fruit and cut into wedges. Fold in a container and store for up to six months.
On a note. It is believed that low temperatures destroy vitamins, but this is not the case. Cold can change the structure of frozen food, and the more moisture, the stronger the effect. Please note that the ideal temperature for freezing fruits and vegetables is –18 ° C. At –12 ° C, food can be stored for no more than six weeks.
