Professors from King's College London talked about how sleep affects weight loss and why you should sleep an hour more.

It's no secret that healthy sleep helps to avoid many diseases, relieves nervous tension and even helps to lose weight. An extra hour of sleep can reduce the need for sugar and carbohydrates, according to a new study by researchers at King's College London.
Specially invited participants were divided into two groups - some began to sleep an hour longer than usual (about 8 hours), while others did not change their habits. They all got the same tasks: not drinking coffee before bed and not going to bed too hungry or right after dinner.
After a week, the study showed that participants who chose longer sleep began to consume less sugar and also felt less need for simple carbohydrates. This small lifestyle change will make it much easier to eat well, according to project supervisor Wendy Hall. In addition, people who suffer from lack of sleep are at risk and more likely to suffer from heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
