In the fall of 2016, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan announced the launch of an ambitious project. His goal is to find cures for four common diseases: cancer, infections, cardiovascular and neurological diseases. To start research, $ 3 billion was transferred to the account of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI).
This Wednesday, the story continued. Priscilla (Zuckerberg's wife is a pediatrician) and Mark announced the issuance of grants for 5 years in the amount of $ 50 million. The money will be distributed among 47 top scientists, who were selected from 700 applicants.
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) has partnerships with three universities: Berkeley, University of Central Florida, and Stanford. But he plans to bring in researchers from other institutions as well.
Many were skeptical about Zuckerberg's ambitious plans and urged him to transfer money to the account of the World Health Organization. But personally, we believe in miracles and modern science. And you?
